EVERYTHING IS READY FOR THE VAULTS RECONSTRUCTION. WORKS UPDATE

11/2021

The masonry bridge over the Deba estuary (1866) is a special protection asset within the Camino de Santiago Monumental Complex. In July 2018 its central pier's foundations partially collapsed due to the teredos (shipworms) attack on the wooden piles. This fact triggered an emergency intervention to ensure the bridge's stability. FHECOR and INJELAN drew up the rehabilitation project in 2019. They are currently providing Construction Management works.
The central vaults were totally dismantled, and every rock piece (voussoir/ashlar) was carefully named and stored for reconstruction. Now it’s the time to start putting pieces back! The geometry of the “formwork” has been adapted to reach the final geometry of the vaults and voussoirs are starting to be relocating in their places. Some pieces had been repaired, some others are totally new.

As always, we will keep you posted.
