STARTING OF THE CUT-AND-COVER WORKS IN THE M-30 HIGHWAY UNDER THE 'VICENTE CALDERÓN' STADIUM AREA, IN MADRID

11/2021

Last month, the works for covering the M-30 highway underground in the section that was next to the former 'Vicente Calderón' started. The demolition of the stadium finished recently. The Madrid's City Council awarded the construction works to a JV formed by Acciona and Ferrovial.

FHECOR is in charge of adapting the original project to the complex realities encountered in the worksite, which comprises many challenges, such as the interferences with a railway line, existing foundations of the former stadium, the 'San Isidro' bridge, or the sewage system.

The project's primary purpose is to increase the neighborhood's green spaces, extending the 'Madrid Rio' park while enhancing the safety of the M-30 users.

The structure of this gigantic green roof will be able to resist up to 1.25 meters of soil, allowing the park's vegetation to root. It will be formed by precast prestressed concrete girders up to 30 m long. They will be supported on the retaining walls, which have a deep foundation formed by large-diameter piles. In addition, three overlooks are planned on the wall next to the river, giving a new perspective to enjoy to the park passerby.
