On September 16th, the project for Barcelona’s central train station was officially presented by the Minister of Transport, Raquel Sánchez, and the Mayor of Barcelona, Ada Colau.
The refurbishment and expansion project and budget have been approved to start the works carried out by companies SENER (engineering), FHECOR (structures), and the architecture firm RCR, winner of the Pritzker Prize 2017.
The current building dates back to 1979, and the station is expected to be accessible from its four façades and walkable in all its areas. In addition, green spaces will surround the building. ADIF will begin the work next year, and the first phase is expected to be finished by 2026.
