The first High-Speed Commercial Train arrived just after midday at Sants railway station in Barcelona to begin the final stages in the testing programme before entering into service on the last stretch of the High Speed Train railway Line between Madrid and Barcelona.
The train, a Siemens model S-103, fitted out with 8 carriages, entered Sants Station at 12:20 on Line 6.
The arrival of this first commercial convoy of the high speed train on tests to Barcelona has been carried out with total discretion, with no type of reception or announcement in the station, and was not even seen by passengers from other railway routes which were present at the same time in the station, due to the fact that the line was hidden by a mesh.
The high-speed train set was stationed at line 6 pending further tests in coming days to check the state of the high speed line in the arrival stretch according to sources from ADIF.
A high speed ‘Laboratory’ train of the so-called ‘Pato’ model started tests last night to check the tension of the overhead cables, the resistance of the platform and the signaling, and will also continue to check the installations of the high-speed train.
According to ADIF, the tests began yesterday night with the setting up of the electrification of the cables, the signaling and the 4.3Km stretch between Sants and L'Hospitalet, so that now the line between Madrid and Barcelona is up and running for trains to circulate.
The tests were fulfilled on the stretch between L'Hospitalet de Llobregat and Barcelona, as well as on the six international gauge lines at Sants Station in Barcelona.
The electricity supply to the line is fulfilled through traction substations which allow a better sharing of electrical current and are used in all the high-speed lines in Spain.
