Carolabrücke: A New Opportunity for Dresden.
The reconstruction of the Carolabrücke presents a unique opportunity for Dresden. Rather than simply replacing the old bridge, a new connection is being created that responds to the demands of the 21st century and reconnects the Old Town and New Town in a fresh way.

The design focuses on a compact, flexible, and versatile bridge. It combines tram, road traffic, cycling, and pedestrian paths into a single structure, requiring less space than the previous solution with three separate bridges.

A Bridge for Today and Tomorrow
The total width is approximately 32.5 meters, making it narrower than the last Carolabrücke. The goal of the cross-sectional design is to create a high-performance yet compact traffic infrastructure with high urban spatial quality.

The design consolidates all modes of transport on a single deck, resulting in a clear, calm, and flexibly usable structure.
Overhead line and lighting poles are consistently placed along the outer railing lines. This keeps the cross-section free of additional installations between the traffic areas and allows for long-term flexibility in traffic organization.
