The La Laguna Bus Interchange, located next to the Padre Anchieta Roundabout, is a key mobility hub in Tenerife.
Inaugurated in March 2011, this intermodal space—which connects buses, private vehicles, trams, taxis, pedestrians, and the future northern train—was a pioneering project by Metropolitano de Tenerife.
Today, the Tenerife Island Council is taking a further step with a comprehensive improvement project that will transform its functionality, aesthetics, and connection with the city.
The works, which are technically and spatially complex, include:
— Adapting the building to integrate the new Padre Anchieta pedestrian footbridge.
— Installing smart enclosures in the waiting bays to optimize user flow.
— Replacing cladding with steel slats to modernize the appearance and unify it with the footbridge’s surroundings.
— And rehabilitating pavements, drainage systems, and lighting to ensure accessibility and durability.
To carry out the construction without disrupting services, a temporary interchange will be built to maintain operability during the works.
The improvements feature:
— A renovated façade with durable materials and a design consistent with the urban environment.
— More spacious areas, thanks to the relocation of glass walls, and an enhanced user experience.
— The pedestrian footbridge is seamlessly integrated, providing direct and safe access for citizens.
Every detail—from the steel finishes to the lighting—has been designed to combine functionality and aesthetics, reinforcing La Laguna’s character as a sustainable and connected city.
This project, driven by the Tenerife Island Council, is an example of how innovation in infrastructure can improve daily life, connecting people, spaces, and opportunities.
